I trained as a teacher and taught for over 20 years. In 2012 I graduated with a Masters in Educational Psychology and in 2013 I graduated with a Masters in Art Therapy (Clinical). Since graduating, I established ARTFIX, my private practice. I worked initially predominantly with children in school and in my studio, specialising in working with children with special needs.
In 2016 I moved to London to take up a position with Richmond and Kingston CAMHS in the Learning Disability Service as an Art Psychotherapist. While in the UK, I trained as a Sandplay Practitioner.
In 2018 my family and I returned to Wellington. I became registered as an ACC provider and assessor and expanded my private practice to include adults with sensitive claims. I also started working for Wellstop, treating children and young people with harmful sexual behaviour.
in 2019 I trained in EMDR therapy and I now weave this into my practice with both adults and children. EMDR and Art Therapy are well aligned, both using bilateral stimulation to aid accessing and processing of trauma memories. EMDR therapy can also be combined very successfully with Sandplay, particularly for very young children, or for clients with preverbal trauma memories.
